Three weeks ago I came down with an awful cough. This lasted a week and then developed into a full blown cold. This is the third week now and I am still streaming and coughing. This is the longest bout I have ever had. Suffice to say no Methotrexate for three weeks now. Luckily my immune system (what there is of it) is busy battling the cold, so the joints are sore but bearable.

It was touch and go last night whether I should take my Methotrexate but I was too worried about the cold developing further and ruining Christmas. Just my luck I will most probably have a massive flare and end up in bed anyway.

Baa humbug to the two people I work with who developed this first and decided to give everyone else it as an early Christmas present. They know I am immune compromised but they have no comprehension how easily they spread those nasty germs despite my heavy hints and loud protesting. I can only hold my breath so much when in the vicinity of bug bearing people.RollEyes.

Next dose of Methotrexate due on Christmas Eve which means feeling rough on Christmas Day. Hey ho.

Hi Jackie

Sorry you are ill right now. Don't worry about having a flare after 3 weeks without mxt. It should stay in your system for about 6 weeks. If it makes you ill the day after you take it I would say leave it until tuesday then you will be ok for Christmas day and Boxing day but don't forget that you will have to take it every tuesday from then on. You don't need to stop mxt for a cold unless you are on antibiotics for your chest infection.

I have just been taken off Mtx due to bad side effects. I will not be able to start the new dmard (Leflunomide) for 3 weeks as I need to have some tests and an induction session first. My consultant told me today that a flare was unlikely in the short period between the 2 drugs as the Mtx will stay in my system for quite some time. I hope this is reassuring. Best wishes from Naomi.

I recently had to stop my mtx for 9 weeks while they investigated a cough. I was really worried but it took about 7 weeks before I noticed any real difference. Mind you it then took about 6 weeks before it started working again - just last week a colleague commented that 'You have got your sparkle back' I used to wonder if the mtx really did anything much. Now I know it does!
Hope you are OK for Xmas.

Sorry to hear you are not well. I had to come off mtx for 3 weeks because of a bad cough and sore throat and did not experience any adverse effects.

I hope you soon feel better and are able to enjoy Christmas with your family.

Best wishes
Lisa

Hi Lovely Jackie

Just what you need before Christmas! I agree with everyone who has said the MTX should stay in your system for 8 weeks or so. My guess is that you won't feel significantly worse without it for such a short time. I also agree with Sheila about adjusting the day of the dose so it doesn't affect you on Christmas Day. I think I'd take it tomorrow so the after effects should have well and truly worn off.

Take care - hope you feel much better soon and are able to enjoy Christmas.

Much love
